Combat Athletics is a Martial Arts Academy for everyone.
Whatever your goals, be it self defence, fitness and health, competitive sport we have it covered.
Our team of Instructors will guide and help you on your journey, in this unique and special space which is steeped in history .
The Core team is Howard Hughes and Karen Ousey, both former champion fighters and without question the original and most highly qualified instructors in the Torbay/South West Area.
Howard is a former 3 x British Champion in Muay Thai, and a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He is a third degree under the famous Grand Master Sken Kaewpadung from Thailand. He is also very passionate about Kali/Filipino Martial Arts holding a Level 1 Instructorship with the MKG group, headed by Rick Faye.
Karen is a former British and 3 x World Champion, undefeated as a professional fighter, a red armband under Grand Master Sken . Fully qualified PT/Fitness Instructor.
THE HISTORY OF OUR GYM
The Academy has gone though many transformations and has a history spanning over 35 years, by far the most established in the Torbay area with its own premises.

Originally founded by Howard Hughes, under the Sitnarong Devon name, it became Sukhothai and then Planet Combat in the mid 1990’s and early 2000’s before teaming up with his long time friend and business partner Mark Tucker, taking on the Combat Athletics Academy name in 2012. The original Academy is run by Mark in Liskeard, Cornwall, the sister Academy in Paignton, Devon.
Together there is strength in unity, sharing ideas and concepts to help each other grow and prosper into the future.
